New windows for Castle Donington property

For this conservation area project, we travelled just over the border into Leicestershire to the historic market town of Castle Donington. Situated on the former Birmingham to Nottingham trunk road, Castle Donington has a rich history as an important East Midlands market town. With a long history as a lace-making industrial hub, Castle Donington is now perhaps, best known for its close proximity to the East Midlands Airport and the annual music festival Download Festival, which is held at Donington Park.

Situated in a semi-rural location almost equidistant between Derby and Nottingham, Castle Donington is a desirable location for many homeowners in the area. There are lots of period properties to be found in the town including Georgian and Regency properties and some 17th century timber framed buildings.

Residence 9 flush sash window renovation

This Castle Donington installation is the perfect example of a conservation area renovation. The Nurse family were looking to improve their home’s performance without having a negative impact on its conservation area appearance. Set over three floors, their traditional brick façade townhouse was in need of replacement windows to bring its thermal efficiency and acoustic performance up to 21st century standards.

After visiting the property, the experts at Lifestyle Windows suggested Residence 9 windows from the Residence Collection. Residence 9 windows are designed to tastefully replicate 19th century window designs with all the benefits of modern materials. Their flush finish is understated and attractive and for this project, the four horizontal astragal bars perfectly recreate the period style.

An arched top frame was used for the windows on the ground and the first floor while the second floor windows were straight edged on all four sides. Their neutral white frames are perfectly in keeping with the area’s character and their symmetrical design accentuates the building’s natural proportions. The homeowners were delighted with the installation and are now enjoying a far more efficient home with a stylish and classy exterior appearance.

As a result of this project, we were asked to renovate the local pub in Castle Donington. Also situated in a conservation area, the owners were impressed with our work on the property above and thought that we would be the best choice for the pub conversion. The former Tudor Inn has now been completely refurbished and is home to the Castle Donington Community Hub (see images below).
